Itinerary 8D7N

Available only during a set period from 1st October to 20th October each year this journey takes place once a year from Komodo to Ambon and starts the season for the Tiger Blue before it heads to the Banda Islands & Raja Ampat.

The itinerary is customised each year so the one below is only a sample 8 day itinerary from Sumba to Alor. This is a fabulous itinerary for anyone interested in the island cultures of Eastern Indonesia. This trip shows just how cultures can evolve so differently between small islands which are not very far apart. It is a trip for the adventurous.

This trip is great combined with a Komodo itinerary to make a long 2 weeks holiday that takes you on very diverse parts of the world.

Fly to Bali, overnight stay.

Day 1 Morning flight Bali-Sumba. Embark Tiger Blue

Day 2 & 3 Sumba, formerly known as Sandalwood Island, is known for its horses and Sumba cloth. Sandalwood was the only known cure for many diseases until penicillin was invented. The Sumbanese traded with the Chinese until the 16th century, after which the Arabs became their most important trading partners until the early 20th century. The island is famous for its arts and handicrafts, particularly the textile "ikat" weaving. We can visit ancient megalithic tombs-huge carved stone graves. As well as snorleling,diving and other activities we can visit Waingapu the main city of Sumba and the surrounding villages. Overnight sail to Pulau Ende on the South Flores coast.

Day 4 Visit Pulau Ende with interesting Portuguese, Javanese and Dutch military history and fortresses to be seen. In the afternoon begin a land excursion, driving 1.5 hours from Ende to Moni, a quaint town in the mountains.There are many sceneric photo opportunities along the route.Spend the night in a hotel in Moni. Early morning, breakfast and a drive up the Kelimutu Volcano to hike to the three colored lakes in the craters. This scenery has a end of the world feeling and is a once in a lifetime experience. After a few hours enjoying the colored lakes a car will bring you to Paga, a coastal traditional village where Tiger Blue is waiting to welcome you. Overnight we sail to Pulau Lembata,east of Flores. Aprox. 93nM

Day 5 We visit the last, traditional whale catching village Lamalera where if we are lucky we can see the villagers in action. A cry of "Baleo, Baleo, Baleo"means whales have been spotted and the villagers all jump in their canoes to start a hunt. Overnight sail to Alor Straits.

Day 6 We enjoy Alor Strait and snorkel/dive the Alor Islands as well as visit the Christian and Islamic islands in the straits where woven ikats are made and sold. We sail to Kalabahi where we can enjoy a land excursion to the visit theTakpala tribe. Tribal life,music and dance with the sound of Moko drums -a traditional wedding gift.

Day 7 Prepare for flight to Denpasar, overnight stay in hotel on the beach.

Day 8 Get back to Bali
